Very simply an HSA is like an IRA for your health care.  Two parts are required for the qualified HSA.  First you need a qualified High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and second is an HSA account established at a bank.  We can help you find the qualifying vehicles for both parts.

What an HSA does is allow you to put money into a designated bank account on a before-tax basis.  That gives you an immediate savings of 15-35% based on your current income tax rate.  Then whatever funds you have deposited into your HSA account can be invested in whatever manner you choose and the return you earn will grow tax free as long as it remains in the account, similar to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA).
